Contrary to lies published in government newspapers, the two intelligence police officers arrested over the weekend in Ndola were detained on suspicion of leaking information related to the theft of a vehicle by Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mary Tembo.
Head of the police intelligence unit in Kitwe Greyson Fungameli, 47, and chief inspector Ndabeni Tunali, 33, were arrested together with two civilians on charges of obtaining money by false pretences.
But the four were set free after the ‘complainant’ withdrew the complaint.
The Watchdog has been informed that the truth is that the police officers were detained on orders by Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mary Tembo for leaking information to Muvi TV.
When contacted for a comment, Ms Tembo cut the line before the Reporter could even finish asking the question.
But sources within the police service disclosed that the officers were detained in Ndola on Saturday after Muvi TV carried a story revealing how Commissioner Tembo registered a Police vehicle donated by Grizzly Mining and turned it into a personal vehicle.
“Mr Fungameli and Ndabeni were detained on Saturday on suspicion of having leaked the information to Muvi TV which exposed her scandalous character where she registered a Police vehicle donated by Grizzly Mining as a personal vehicle. This is theft of motor vehicle and abuse office.
‘Ms Tembo’s decision to detain the two officers is meant to divert the attention from the theft of motor vehicle to the office, but most officers are up in arms against Ms Tembo over her behaviour.
“The officers want to see the PF government take action against Ms Tembo because some other senior officer like Dr Malama and Mr Mutentwa were fired on imaginary and non-existent charges. If she doesn’t like you, she will frame a charge against you,” said some police officers.
The police officers also said ‘the officer who registered the same donated vehicle is living in fear because Ms Tembo has framed a charge against him after she fell out of favour with him. She now wants to detain him also because he is suspected to have released information to Muvi TV.
