PRESS STATEMENT ON

LOSS OF POWER TO THE TERMINAL BUILDING AT KENNETH KAUNDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

ZESCO would like to make a statement on the recent reports in the Press on the loss of power to the terminal building at Kenneth Kaunda (KK) International Airport on Tuesday 2nd October 2012, from 16:41hours to 22:00hours.

We are therefore informing the public that the power outage was not due to a fault on the ZESCO system, but was beyond the metering point which is on the customer’s side.

Our policy is that ZESCO’s responsibility ends at the metering point and faults on the customer’s side are to be resolved by the customer. However, due to the national importance and that it is a strategic installation; ZESCO was on hand to offer technical support to National Airports Corporation.

We wish to state that installations such as hospitals, airports and other sensitive installations will always be given priority support to ensure continuous availability of supply.

As a responsible corporate citizen, we shall endeavor to supply safe and reliable electricity to support national development and to improve the quality of life for all.
