Kolopa: Central province to receive water for only 6 out of 24 hours a day

The water utility stated yesterday that the continued load -shedding by Zesco Limited had compromised supply which had been reduced from 22 hours to six hours daily.

Lukanga supplies water to the entire Central Province – Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi, Mkushi, Serenje, Mumbwa, Chibombo, Chisamba and Itezhi Tezhi districts.

Lukanga Water public relations officer King Syacika said the company was now supplying water from 07:00 hours to 10:00 hours and 17:00 hours to 20:00 hours only, which was against its service level guarantee of an average 22 hours per day.

“This is due to the negative impact of the massive load- shedding by ZESCO in the company’s production and distribution plants. This situation has forced the company to supply water at a minimum average of six hours per day below the level guarantee of average 22 hours per day,” stated Syacika. Lukanga Water, according to Syacika, is currently engaging Zesco to find a solution that will improve the situation for the company to meet an acceptable level of service.
