Labour Office fails to assist ‘fired’ journalists

The Ministry of Labour has failed to intervene in a matter where Komboni Radio has refused to pay gratuity to five journalists whose contracts were terminated this year.
The five scribes had their contracts terminated on 16th May 2016 following a dispute over conditions of service but the station has refused to pay them their gratuity.
Senior Labour Officer in charge of employment a Mrs Museteka and Assistant Labour Commissioner only identified as Mrs Kasanda claimed that there was no law compelling the Radio Station to pay any gratuity to its former employees.
The two officers were keenly following up the matter when it was reported to their office but have suddenly changed their position after reportedly receiving a bribe and have now indicated that there was little the Labour Office could do over the matter.
