Lands department confirms Kapata owns land in reserve forest

The Commissioner of Lands has confirmed that Lands Minister Jean Kapata is among people that were allocated land at the controversial Forest No.27 in Lusaka following its partial de-gazetting.

Addressing the media at a joint briefing with the Ministry of Information, Acting Commissioner of Lands, George Sindila however says Ms Kapata is not the only government official with land in the area.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sindila has clarified that the ministry of lands is not mandated by law to advertise land to the public before allocation.

Concerns by various stakeholders have been raised over government’s decision to de-gazette land at forest 27 saying this decision is damaging the very sensitive and strategic ecosystem and headwaters of Chalimbana river on which thousands of people in the area depend on.
