LAZ, MISA Zambia speak out on Sata’s sickness

The Law Association of Zambia says discussions on sickness on the part of an incumbent President should not be shrouded in secrecy and controversy, while MISA Zambia has vowed to continue providing platform for such discussions.

In a statement issued on 2nd October LAZ condemns the people in government and advise the President to conceal the real circumstances surrounding his health.

“It does not help for those who are in government and who advise the President to conceal the real circumstances surrounding the health of the Head of State,” read the statement in part.

And during the Annual General Meeting held at intercontinental hotel on Friday, 3rd October media houses under the Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia said they will continue to host discussions concerning the health of President Michael sata because he held an institutional office and that his poor health had the potential to affect the country’s economy.

The members unanimously condemned the state harrasment of media houses that provide platform for such discussions, they however vowed to continue hosting the discussions and urged the organisation’s national governing council to be strong and provide leadership.

Early this year, Hot FM journalists were summoned by police for allegedly hosting a debate on President sata’s health. The compromised Independent Broadcasting Authority also threatened to take sanctions against the media house and ordered them to issue an apology to state house but the radio statio defied the order.

MISA Zambia’s highly publicised debate at Alliance Francaise on the establishment of a medical board to ascertain the President’s suitability to occupy office was cancelled after state security agents ordered Alliance Francaise not to host MISA.

President sata’s health has been detriorating and has raised succession wrangles in the ruling party, the aging leader has failed to attend major state functions at home and abroad.

 

And unconfirmed reports reaching te Watchdog indicate that Sata was yesterday evacuated to an unknown destination for medical treatment to make him appear fit head of the 50th Independence celebrations in about three weeks’ time. We are however investigating this report and will locate the exact whereabout of Mr. Sata Also known as Michael Charles Katongo Mwango Chilufya Sata.
