Lift wage freeze as promised-demands ZCTU

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called on the government to give a clear position on the wage freeze imposed on government workers.
ZCTU president Chishimba Nkole said Thursday the wage freeze remains legal and is a threat to harmonious industrial relations.
Nkole has urged the government to remember what they promised the workers.
‘There must be a clear position, how do we negotiate when there is a wage freeze? ‘Nkole wondered.
He said the government position was not clear because they are telling labour unions that they are free to negotiate for improved conditions of service yet the wage freeze has not been lifted.
And Nkole said President Lungu should realise that workers are enduring difficult working conditions due to weak labour laws.
President Lungu had promised to lift the wage freeze once elected President using the ‘me too’ formula but is yet to do so.
