Litunga’s Case Referred to Constitutional Court

The Lusaka High Court has referred the case to the constitutional court in which four Mongu residents have sued the Litunga of western province (Barotseland) for him to resign as Litunga for gross incompetence and abuse of authority.
High Court Judge Gertrude Chawatama has referred the matter to the constitutional court as the question of the Constitution arises in the lawsuit.
Nabiwa Imikendu, Litia Mutemwa, Mukubesa Ilukena and Mumbisho Liswana sued Edwin Lubosi Imwiko in his capacity as the Litunga to resign from the throne.
The Litunga’s lawyers said the allegations on their client questions the competence of the Litunga who holds a constitutionally created office of the Litunga.
The lawsuit was initially filed in the Mongu High Court and later the file was sent to Lusaka for allocation.
