Chief Shimumbi of the Bemba speaking people in Lubansenshi Constituency yesterday thanked the UPND President Hakainde Hichilema for the pivotal role he (HH) played for him to be recognised by the PF government.
Speaking through his representative when the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM), UPND candidate Patrick Mucheleka and entourage paid a courtesy call on him, Chief Shimumbi said he was proud of the development Mucheleka has taken to Lubanseshi Constituency and that he was talking to the people of the area to consider him finish his term of office.
Chief Shimumbi, who personally blessed the UPND leadership by smearing them with the traditional Nkula herbs, said the UPND leader played a pivotal role in his recognition and spoke for other Bemba Chiefs at a time it was not fashionable to do so.
The chief said he was impressed with the UPND slogan of Zambia Forward and that without the UPND leadership that fought hard, the Bemba Chiefdom would have had a government installed chief and not one installed by the traditional leadership.
He also praised Mucheleka for the role he played in speaking for the people of Lubanseshi and taking development in very difficult conditions as an independent Member of Parliament.
And Mr. Hichilema said he was greatly humbled with the reception accorded to him by the traditional leadership and the people of entire Luwingu District.
The UPND leader committed himself to revamping the agriculture sector which has collapsed in the area.
He said as a party, they stood for development and not insults and violence being perpetrated by the PF leadership in the country.
Mr. Hichilema said he was in the area to campaign for his brother Mucheleka who he described as one of the best brains and a great asset to the nation.
The UPND leader said the whole country was looking at Lubanseshi to see what will happen to Mucheleka because everyone knows his leadership qualities.
Mr. Hichilema said Mucheleka was not only a leader for Lubanseshi Constituency, but his qualities were recognised even by the PF leadership that also elected him to represent Zambia as a country at the African Parliament.
He said the African Parliament also elected Mr. Mucheleka as their chairperson signifying how the whole Africa respected him and that they were waiting for the people of Lubanseshi to again send him back to Parliament.
“What more do people want in a leader. The whole Africa respects this man, and they will laugh at you if you don’t vote for him”, Mr. Hichilema said.
He said the amount of poverty and hunger in the country was unacceptable as children were not going to schools because parents had no money.
Mr. Hichilema and entourage later addressed several meeting in Chief Shimumbi’s area where he reiterated the same message and found villagers reading copies of parliamentary order papers and newspaper cuttings of Mucheleka’s contributions in parliament and the African Parliament.
