President Michael Sata yesterday confirmed the dropping of Kabwata member of Parliament Given Lubinda from Cabinet by swearing in Effron Lungu as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Lungu was until last week Deputy Foreign Affairs minister.
Lubinda has been facing disciplinary charges in the Patriotic Front.
Lubinda’s fate in the PF will be determined by the party’s Central Committee on Saturday as the party has been waiting for the by-elections in Mpongwe and Livingstone to pass. The PF fears that hounding out Lubinda this time would have direct negative consequences again the ‘Dont Kubeba’ regime.
But with the postponement of the Livngstone by-election, Lubinda’s case may also be deferred.
Lubinda himself has not said much since the time he was suspended fueling suspicions that he could be guilty. One prominent rumor is that Lubinda has been involved in some corrupt activities and has acquired a lot of property in the short period he has been minister and fears that by challenging PF, he will be arrested.
