Lukulu residents overrun police station after Police beat suspect to death

Residents of Lukulu in Western Province have overrun the police station in the area forcing police officers to flee after one suspect in custody was allegedly beaten to death.
The riotous residents beat up police officers on Sunday morning and damaged office equipment and vehicles. All inmates who were in police cells are believed to have escaped after Police officers fled the area.
Police reinforcements from Mongu have since arrived in Lukulu and are trying to normalise the situation.
The suspect who is yet to be named was arrested for alleged involvement in ‘Karavina’ activities. (Hired killer armed with AK 47 Rifle)
The Police Officer who is accused of beating the suspect to death was involved in another wrangle with the community last year after he beat up a Barotse activist named Boyd Nyambe till he lost consciousness.
Incidences of residents attacking police stations are on the rise in recent weeks with similar attacks occurring in Kitwe and Kafue.
