Lundazi farmers protest FRA failure to pay for their maize

Over 280 farmers in Lundazi have joined the many farmers across the country protesting the failure by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to pay them for the maize they supplied to the agency.
The farmers who protested at the District Commissioners office demanded to be paid immediately or be given back the maize they supplied to FRA but were assured that they would be paid next week.
On Monday farmers in Nchelenge also protested and demanded to be given back the maize they supplied FRA but were also assured that they would be paid next week.
Farmers across the country are owed k900million by the FRA for the maize supplied and three weeks ago agriculture minister Wilbur Simusa told the nation that government had released K500 million to pay the farmers and promised to clear all farmers before the rain season.
Meanwhile government has supplied farming inputs to most parts of the country but farmers are unable to get the inputs as the same government that has failed to pay them wants a deposit payment before they can get the inputs.
Farmers are targeting to plant their maize before 15th December if they are to get good yields.
