President Edgar Lungu is planning to free former Inktec Managing Director and Murdere convict Mathew Mohan because Mohan helped finance Lungu’s 2015 presidential campaign and has promised to fund the 2016 campaigns through his network of international criminals.
According to a state house source, the intention by Lungu to commute all the death sentences last time when he freed defiler musician Clifford Dimba alias General Kanene was a strategy to eventually pave way for Mohan’s pardon. In this evil clandestine, Lungu has incorporated Prisons Commissioner General Percy Chato.
From the meetings that have been held between Lungu, Mohan’s relatives and some of his fellow fellow criminals, Lungu is under pressure to free Mohan on Christmas day or New year’s day when he is also expected to pardon some more criminals. He however fears an outcry from people and has since proposed if he could drag it to 25th May next year during the 2016 Africa Freedom day.
Through his network of criminals and some of his companies based abroad Mohan has been funding some PF activities and has promised to mobilise more resources if released from prison. In return he will be given many business contracts if Lungu wins the elections.
And reliable sources from Mukobeko maximum security prison where he is being held have told the Watchdog that now that he is no longer on the death row, Mohan doesn’t spend all nights in prison as he is smuggled out under the pretext that he is testifying in fake cases.
“We don’t know if Mohan is appearing as a witness in any cases. He is usually moved from prison and all we are told is that he is a witness in some case out of town, he doesn’t come back maybe for one or two days and mostly Mr. Chato comes to use his authority to get him out of prison. It is only a few prison warders who are privy to his movements and from the life these guys lead you can tell that they are being paid heavily. They drink and have bought properties and also assured of some promotions,” said the source.
