Lungu bans beer on his day of prayers

*Bars and Taverns will only open at 19hrs on Day of National Prayers-Hon.Vincent Mwale*

“Observe the day in a solemn and sober manner”

Lusaka- Tuesday 17th October 2017

Minister of Local Government and Housing, Hon. Vincent Mwale has advised that Bars and Taverns will open after 19hrs on Wednesday 18th October 2017

In 2015, President Edgar Lungu declared 18th October as a day of National Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation and was also gazetted as Public Holiday.

Mwale said that although the Liquor Licencing Act no 20 of 2011 prescribes drinking hours from 10hrs -22hrs, the license holders were advised to open the bars at 19hrs in Wednesday.

“This is intended to allow the public to commemorate the day in a solemn and sober manner”

Mwale also appealed to the public to commemorate the day by avoiding frequenting bars.

This contained in a public notice issued.
