Lungu begs for support from Nevers Mumba

President Edgar Lungu says he has started engaging MMD leader, Nevers Mumba on a possible alliance ahead of the August 11 general elections.
President Lungu says he has already sent a message to Dr. Mumba over the matter.
The President says he is optimistic that the Patriotic Front and MMD will work together to avoid a re-run. Mumba only got 14,609 votes in the January 2015 presidential elections.
President Lungu says he remains grateful to former President Rupiah Banda for supporting him in the January 20, 2015 election.
The PF controlled ZNBC reports from Chipata that the President says he will be happy if Dr. Mumba and Mr. Banda make peace for the sake of unity of purpose in the opposition party.
President Lungu said if the two do not resolve their differences the PF will go ahead and work with MMD members who are willing.
Mumba was recently teargased by President Lungu’s police as he was holding an indoor meeting in Eastern Province.
