President Edgar Lungu has castigated Special assistant Lucky Mulusa for exposing the fertiliser being sold at the Mulungushi Textiles plant by the Tanzanian investor Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (METL).
A State house source has told the Watchdog that after the story on this site, METL officials who financed Lungu’s PF campaigns called him to complain and in turn Lungu blasted Mulusa for the expose. The source further says that State house permanent secretary Emmanuel Chilubanama also personally complained to Lungu because he (Chilubanama) is also a beneficiary of the textile scam.
“The boss was very annoyed with Mulusa and ordered that he stops persecuting his ‘partners’. I don’t see Mulusa doing anything about this Mulungushi matter especially that Chilubanama also complained to the President,” said the source.
On Friday UPND youths in Kabwe staged a peaceful demonstration against the continued closure of Mulungushi Textiles but Lungu reacted by sending Mulusa to try and calm the situation. While touring the plant area, Mulusa found tonnes of fertiliser and detergents brought in from Tanzania as earlier reported by the Watchdog.
With Lungu’s interference it is highly unlikely that even after breaching the contract, METL will not be penalised and Mulusa may even be removed from his position but that can only be done if Lungu consults former President Rupiah Banda because Mulusa was indirectly appointed by Banda.
