President Edgar Lungu is now courting Rainbow Party Wynter Kabimba in a strange but tricky alliance in Lungu’s bid for the third term in 2021, but the move is likely to backfire and be opposed by many PF members.
A reliable source at state house has disclosed that Lungu has of late informed his inner circle that Lungu was anticipating a fall off with many PF founder members in his pursuit of the third term race and he is projecting that he will lose out on the Bemba stronghold hence the need to bring in Kabimba whom he hopes will bring in the Southern province votes.
“He is determined to dribble his way through to the 2021 ballot as Presidential candidate for the PF but knows the consequences and anticipates a fall off with the Bemba votes so now he is bringing in Kabimba. But this alliance is like that of a cat and mouse and will backfire,” said the source.
To further Twist Kabimba, Lungu is using the oil scandals that Kabimba was associated with when he served as PF secretary general under the late Michael Sata. According to the terms they are drafting, if Lungu succeeds in manipulating his way then he will pick Kabimba as his running mate and kick out his Inonge Wina who even by age may not be willing to continue with politics.
Kabimba, the former Secretary General of the PF and once a very strong politician in the PF and projected himself as Sata’s successor was unceremoniously demoted by Sata shortly before his death in 2014. Recently, he came out in support of Lungu’s third term bid and is laying ground for his party to be in alliance with the PF.
