President Lungu has directed police to arrest former PF members Saidi Chibwana and Watson Mwale for spearheading defections from PF in Central province. Intelligence officers from Lusaka have also been sent to Kabwe to monitor the movements and activities of the duo.
Chibwana who is former Kabwe deputy Mayor and Bwacha constituency chairman, and former Chimanimani ward youth chairman Mwale recently led over 800 PF members to UPND during a meeting that was addressed by party leader Hakainde Hichilema.
“The President is concerned about Central province because this links Copperbelt and Lusaka, PF don’t have base in Copperbelt rural and if they lose Central they fear that the defections may replicate in Copperbelt urban. So Chibwana’s departure is a big blow and it even landed provincial minister Davis Chisopa into problems because he is believed to have been behind Chibwana’s frustration in PF,” said the source from State house secret police.
And a UPND source has disclosed that some more members are expected to join UPND during the mobilisation meetings being done by Chibwana and Mwale. The source however withheld the place where the defections will take place for security reasons.
“Some more are coming but I cannot tell you exactly where we will receive them because the PF police may just frustrate the exercise but after everything I will feed you with information,” he said.
