Edgar Lungu’s errands boy Chanda Kabwe has disclosed that Edgar Lungu has distributed more than K10,000,000 (Ten million or Ten billion Kwacha in non rebased currency) to over 17,000 PF cadres using the Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund – PEIF. Lungu has only been in office for about two years and his salary is far less than that.
Speaking at the PF Interactive Forum at Tuskers Hotel in Kabwe, Kabwe who is also PFEIF patron and Central province minister said that the money was from Lungu’s salary and other well wishers but failed to justify who the recipients are. According to him, the fund has been suffocated by non payment of the people that have obtained loans from the fund.
To defend the institution, Kabwe distributed K500 to some other nine PF cadres while refusing that there was no government funds that were diverted to the organisation in spite of murmurs from the audience as he waffled.
To facilitate the running of the PEIF, Kabwe and some known PF cadres have been selling bogus application forms ranging from K50 to K100 without disbursing the funds to applicants.
Kabwe’s rushed public relations exercise is an attempt to water down former Chimwemwe MP and Copperbelt province minister Mwenya Musenge who recently demanded for a probe into the PEIF and the allegations of many marketers who were being charged to access the application forms. But Kabwe took a swipe at Musenge who he repeatedly referred to as a ‘disgruntled politician’.
