Zambia’s High Commissioner to Tanzania Judith Kapijimpanga says President Lungu is going to Uganda to learn how to manage electricity load shedding. And she is even smiling?

How does the president learn about load shedding? And even if he learns something, is he going to to conduct training sessions for Zesco Staff who actually manage the load shedding?

Kapijinpanga says people criticising Lungu for his almost weekly foreign trips are ignorant.

Lungu is expected to fly to Uganda today and ministry of Finance officials say this trip alone will cost tax payers more than K3, 000, 000 (K3billion old currency) in air tickets, hotel lodges, allowances and incidentals for Lungu, his guards, porters and accompanying government officials. Embassy officials in Uganda will also spend money on traveling and allowances.

Just the other day, government spent more than K350, 000 on Rupiah Banda to go and attend a meaningless workshop in East Africa.

It is not even clear what Lungu is going to do in Uganda but he will start his tour with a feast at State House in Entebbe, but of course – wine! Lungu will also tour Quality Chemicals Limited, a firm that manufactures ARVs. It is unclear what benefits this tour will yield for the country. Just touring a company is a waste of productive time for officials at the firm yet it gives no benefit to Lungu since he does not manufacture ARVs and whatever knowleage he will get will be transitory and forgotten once he leaves the plant. Yet Zambian taxpayers will meet the bill for this tour.

Lungu will also meet the Ugandan National Chamber of Commerce, another unnecessary, time wasting meeting as it will just be about repeating the same old speeches.
