In his continued efforts to get rid of all influential PF members perceived to be a threat to his third term bid, President Edgar Lungu has threatened to fire Foreign affairs minister Harry Kalaba for neglecting his constituency, Bahati.
In apparent reference to Kalaba, Lungu who is in Luapula province campaigning for 2021 elections said that he has received reports that some ministers have abandoned their constituencies citing busy schedules from their ministerial jobs. He said that if that is the case then he will drop ‘some ministers’ so that they can concentrate on their constituencies. He made the remarks at Katungulu primary school grounds.
Kalaba who is in Khartoum, Sudan preparing for the airborne Lungu’s visit there is the only PF MP in Luapula who is not with Lungu. And one of the MPs in the entourage has described Lungu’s remarks as being ‘thankless’ because Kalaba is usually busy because of Lungu’s love for travelling out.
“Kalaba is more like a number one diplomat and usually gets involved in preparing Lungu’s foreign travels. Usually he travels a few days earlier to wherever Lungu is going and as it is right now he is in Khartoum preparing Lungu’s travel but back in his home he is being threatened with dismissal. It is all because Kalaba is also one of the founder members who is seen as a threat to Lungu,” said the parliamentarian.
Meanwhile Lungu is plotting to remove Roan MP and former information minister Chishimba Kambwili from the Central committee so as to completely make him alien and therefore disqualify him from challenging him in the forthcoming PF national convention. Lungu is equally under pressure from former President Rupiah Banda who is currently pulling the shots in the PF.
