Edgar Lungu wants to evacuate Chishimba Kambwili to South Africa so that he misses the impeachment process in Parliament, the Watchdog has been informed.
Kambwili, the Roan MP and Garry Nkombo of Mazabuka are the two primary movers of the process to impeach Lungu for corruption and breaching the constitution.
Senior OP sources have explained to the Watchdog that Lungu sees two benefits for himself in Kambwili’s illness.
‘First he will be praised for being a good man who evacuated his enemy; and two, he will get rid of one key person in the impeachment”, a senior intelligence official told the Zambian Watchdog.
Kambwili was arrested and detained just after signing the impeachment papers the same day they were lodged to parliament.
According to sources, once Kambwili is evacuated, he will be in South Africa until the end of the impeachment process.
Lungu fears that if Kambwili remains in the country, he can be present in parliament on the day of the debate.
Lungu further fears that even if Kambwili won’t be in Parliament physically, he can still persuade some PF MPs to vote in favour of the impeachment as long as he remains in Zambia.
“If he is in SA, he will be under state security control so who he talks to can be controlled’, the source said.
It is possible that Kambwili’s illness was deliberately triggered in police cells to create this situation.
