Lungu’s call to fast

President Edgar Lungu should just continue bowing down to whatever curved, or golden images he worships without trying to force the entire country to respect his idols.

How can Lungu order the entire country to pray? Even Jesus never forced people to pray. Mr President, we refuse to worship your Baal. We do not know who your god is. It could be Ashtoreth. Even if you believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, you behaviour seems to point to the prince of darkness.

How can you call for prayers and fasting at the same time show arrogance and drunkenness? When you were calling for those prayers, it was clear that you were drunk, as usual. The next day you sent cadres to go and beat your opponents.

Can a man mock God? Sir, play with Nevers Mumba and Hakainde Hichilema not God. It is dangerous. God knows thy coming in and going out.

We seriously doubt your sincerity in the prayer you are calling for.

On anger and reconciliation, doesn’t Mathew 5: 23, 24 demand that ‘if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.’

You are the one who said the prayers and fasting are aimed at reconciliation.

Who are you trying to reconcile with your Excellency? Is it Hakainde Hichilema, Fred M’membe, Nevers Mumba, Edith Nawakwi and or their supporters? If your call for prayers is genuine, have you done what the Bible demands of you, to first reconcile? Do you think prayer will reconcile you to the people you hate or that it will improve the economy of Zambia? We believe that you are trying to use the name of God in vain. We know you know that a lot of Zambia profess some form of Christianity and you, like Barnabas, think you can enlist Christians to fight your earthly battles. By talking about reconciliation, you admit or tell us that there is enmity between you and some people. Have you taken the initiative to reach out to these people to end the animosity, or you believe you are too important to humble yourself?

Yes you can and you will have hundreds of pastors, bishops and other characters whatever they call themselves to pray with you. But, the Holy Book tells us in 1 Kings 18: that Baal had 450 prophets serving before him. So the number of people who will accompany you to those prayers is not important.

Prayer is good when used to glorify God but can be dangerous when you try to use it to exalt yourself as in this case.

Zambians pray quietly when they go to sleep and when they wake up. But what you are doing is what hypocrites do.

You may want to refer to Mathew 6: 1 which says “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

We are further warned in Mathew 6 that “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others.’

That is what we are talking about Mr PF president. There is no need for you to prove that you are such a prayer worrier by announcing your commitment to God on hilltops such as Manda Hill. You do not need to show your self-righteousness by telling everyone to fast.

In any case, most of us do not have food to avoid on the day you have set aside for fasting. To the majority of us, every day is a fasting day as we have no food.

The best fasting you can do is to provide food to all us.

You call for prayer is not genuine. It is a political gimmick.
