The Millers association of Zambia has observed that the solar powered hammer mills sourced from China will not have a positive impact on the price of mealie-meal.
Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) president Allan Sakala said the solar powered hammer meals have a limited capacity and pointed out that using them on a commercial scale was almost impossible.
Sakala explained that the small capacity of the solar powered hammer mills was meant for rural communities.
President Lungu negotiated for 4000 solar powered hammer mills from China but so far less than two have been installed but are not in production.
The PF has been boasting that the high price of mealie meal will greatly reduce once the solar powered hammer mills become operational.
Meanwhile, government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has charged that government will not allow millers to increase the price of mealie meal and argued that maize exports will not be banned because there are enouph stocks.
