Lungu’s threats are as a result of realisation that power is slipping out of his hands-HH

United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has charged that President Lungu has resorted to issuing threats against him because he has realised that power was slipping out of his hands.
Hichilema said such threats would be laughable had it not been for the violent and manipulative undertones they carried.
‘Threats of this kind are often used when people feel control slipping away and it has become abundantly clear that Mr Lungu is now afraid of a free and fair contest,’ Hichilema charged.
He said regardless of his fears Mr Lungu has a responsibility as Republican President to act in a responsible manner.
Hichilema said the issuance of aggressive and inflammatory threats by President Lungu clearly undermines his claims to promote peace and unity and sends a worrying message to people about how grievances should be dealt with in a democracy.
President Lungu promised to sort out the UPND leader if he ‘refuses’ to accept defeat in the August 11 general elections.
But Hichilema has called on his supporters to turn out in numbers and vote for change so that the result is beyond dispute adding that the UPND has a plan to protect the vote which requires people to turn out in great numbers.
Hichilema said the UPND will have no time to pursue President Lungu when he is defeated because they will be too busy fixing the broken economy.
‘As for Mr Lungu, don’t worry we will leave you alone following the election. We will be too busy implementing the 10 point plan and fixing the mess you have created to give you a second thought once this election is over,’ Hichilema said.
He pointed out that when you have someone at State House who is unable to express themselves on issues they resort to lashing out with personal attacks in frustration.
President Lungu spent most of his time when he addressed a PF rally last Sunday on attacking Hichilema, his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba and the UPND party.
