The Lumwana hospital which was built by Barrick Gold as part of their corporate social responsibility and commissioned by President Edgar Lungu has no drugs and medical personnel, much to the disappointment of FQM.
In a manner to deceive the Solwezi people ahead of Thursday’s by election, health personnel from Chitokoloki, Kaleni hills and Solwezi General Hospital were rounded up to pose as staff at the hospital that was initiated under the levy Mwanawasa administration.
The three doctors that were lined up have since gone back to their respective stations while the hospital pharmacy has no drugs. The situation has annoyed some officers at Barrick Gold and the locals who are being turned away.
They have complained that Lungu is falling in the trap of his mentor Rupiah Banda’s deception of prematurely commissioning projects without facilities and this will backfire on him.
“A hospital is not just about buildings but health personnel and drugs. You can have a modern and state of art building but without doctors and drugs it doesn’t qualify to be a hospital. So this Lungu came here to deceive people and paraded some health personnel who have since gone back and we are disappointed with this deceit. There are no drugs in the building also,” said the source.
