Panic as Lusaka International Airport conducts plane crash drill

There was panic at the Lusaka International airport this morning as  staff conducted an emergency training.

Apparently there was no warning of the exercise and when the emergency sirens sounded passengers scampered for safety.

A rumor was sent across the country that a Malawian plane has crashed at the Lusaka International airport.

It later emerged that the airport was merely conducting a drill for its emergency staff as a requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The training exercise takes place at the airport about every two years to keep emergency services personnel prepared in the event a major aviation disaster would occur at the airport.
