Lusaka’s Kalingalinga marketeers this afternoon begged for forgiveness from UPND leader Mr. Hakainde Hichilema for voting and putting wrong people in government.
The marketeers who mobbed the UPND leader when he went to tour and buy items in various markets in the area bemoaned the state of the trading places which have no basic amenities such as toilets and water.
They told the UPND leader that they were cheated by the PF leadership that mealie meal and other essential commodities will be reduced once they came into power and that Zesco load-shedding would be a thing of the past.
But the marketeers today complained that sometimes they go the whole day without electricity thereby affecting their businesses and destroying their fresh products.
One of the markekeers who literally threw herself in front of Mr. Hichilema said “ba HH please twapapata mwana wesu mutukulikileko. Ba Sata ba bufi nabanabo (Please Mr. HH our son we beg for forgiveness. Mr. Sata and his friends are liers).
Another one said “Ba PF sibaoneka no oneka these days after twabavotela. Ba Sata bana siya nakuvala ma shirt vitenje (The PF leaders are no longer seen these days. Mr. Sata has even abandoned his trademark chitenge shirts he used to put on while in opposition.
But Mr. Hichilema told some of the marketeers he spoke to that as a God fearing person, he fully understood the cries of the people who were cheated by the PF leaders and holds no grudges against their decision.
He said he was humbled to be well received by women and men in the compound and has since pleaded with the Zambians never to be cheated again and should now work towards correcting the mistakes.
He said he has always advised Mr. Sata and his PF friends together with opportunists that were creating expensive bye-elections that the resources being wasted on such costly exercise would be better channeled towards improving markets and other trading areas for the people.
Mr. Hichilema said the PF leaders can only visit them if they are promised allowances by marketeers.
“Just promise them that if you visit us, we shall give you allowances. You will see how they will rush here especially those who want to quickly finish their retirement houses”, Mr. Hichilema told cheering marketeers.
Mr. Hichilema who started his tour from Arcades’s Sunday market to Kalingalinga bought some traditional foods such as vinkubala, bondwe, bowa, kapenta and chibwabwa.
Some marketeers laughed when HH joked that he wanted some mbasela from after buying bondwe.
Police officers who passed by just waved at Mr. Hichilema and his entourage.
On Wednesday, the UPND leader toured Kabwata market where bought a bag of mealie meal at K75,000 and told Mr. Sata and his PF leadership never to take play with people’s lives but address the escalating prices of essential commodities.
