Magande refuses to shut up

Former Finance and National Planning minister Ng’andu Magande says Republican President Rupiah Banda should not tell him to keep quite over the sale of ZAMTEL.

On Wednesday, President Rupiah Banda said Mr Magande should not talk about the privatization of Zamtel because he failed to do anything to save the company from collapse when he was in Government.

President Banda wondered why Mr Magande, who spearheaded the sale of similar shares in Zanaco, was now against the privatization of Zamtel.

But Mr. Magande in interview with LUSAKA BASED QFM said the way the sale of ZAMTEL is being done is totally different from the way the sale of ZANACO was done.

Mr. Magande said the Dutch group Rabobank bought a 49-percent stake In the Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) and not the 75 percent president banda is talking about.
