The three journalists arrested at the instructions of Fred M’membe have been released from custody on court bail.

But Magistrate Lameck Mwale tried his level best to see to it that the journalists would spend the weekend in detention. When four MPs appeared in court to sign as sureties, the poor magistrate changed the condition to say that only senior government officials could sign.

It was only after lawyers threatened to bypass the junior magistrate and go to the High Court that the compromised magistrate released the journalists.

Daily Nation proprietor Richard Sakala, Production editor and FODEP director MacDonald Chipenzi are facing charges of publishing false news which in the opinion of the Zambia police, will alarm the nation.

Four Opposition MPs, Howard Kunda, Dr. Michael Kaingu, Levy Ngoma and Mushili Malama have come sign the bailed bail for the journalists after magistrate Mwale demanded harsh conditions.
