Maintaining maize price for three years is cheating farmers, explains HH

United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has expressed worry at the stagnant maize floor prices that have remained at 65 thousand kwacha for the last three consecutive farming seasons.

Mr Hichilema accused the Patriotic front government of not understanding business.

He noted that a lot of commodities such as bread have been increasing adding that farmers are been cheated by government maintaining maize floor price for three years.

He was speaking when he featured on an exclusive interview on Zambezi fm radio last evening.

And the UPND leader says his party supports the presidential running mate clause in the draft constitution, as it will save the Country expenses of presidential by elections which cost alot of money.

He further pointed out that his party also supports the separation of powers, having an independent judiciary, freedom of information that will have a responsible media among others.

Meanwhile Mr Hichilema says that the he gave the people of potters market 13 million kwacha to help them purchase land in good faith.

He said he gave the money four years ago when it was not election time and accused the vice president Guy Scott of abrogating the electro act as it does not allow to give prior to elections
