Compromised Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini has referred United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema to the Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for allegedly demeaning him.
Matibini’s ruling arises from two points of order that where raised in the last seating of Parliament by PF members of parliament Nickford Chilangwa and R. Mwewa.
He lamented that on 23rd March 2017 the Mast Newspaper published an article which contained remarks by Mr Hichilema which were allegedly demeaning and disparaging him adding that similar remarks were covered by Muvi TV news.
Matibini said the two points of order have raised a prima facie case of contempt against the office of the Speaker.
‘In light of the continued disparaging remarks being made by Mr Hichilema I have decided to refer the matter to the Inspector General of Police for investigations and possible prosecution,’ Matibini said.
