Maureen Mwanawasa says Zambia is at crossroads

maureenFormer first lady Maureen Mwanawasa says “politics of intolerance at the expense of national development are a recipe for dictatorship and police state.”

Contributing to a debate on Twitter following the violence in Livingstone, the former first lady said ‘when blood is spilling, the earth opens and heavens watch – man be careful.’

“Elections thuggery and violence, where to mother Zambia ‪Mpongwe and Livingstone? She asked.

She said Zambia needs the voice of elders.  ‘My country at cross roads. We must have elders somewhere and this is there time, I miss the voice of Mama Kankasa,” she said.

Mwanawasa later told the Watchdog that ‘my comments were not personal but of worry on the escalating violence. I actually commented after seeing the death of a  PF cadre. lam non-partisan but a human rights champion.’
