Former minister Mwale jailed one year

Screen Shot 2015-02-27 at 08.26.56Former Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Maxwell Mwale has been jailed for one year.

Mwale was convicted by the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court for abuse of authority of office by facilitating the issuance of mining licences to a Chinese firm.

But the Chinese businessmen who were arrested together with Mwale on the dame charge have been acquitted since they now fund PF.

Zhongui International Mining Industry Group Limited received the certificate from Mwale and later bought him 5,000 bicycles and paid K473,000 to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

But they have been acquitted.

Mwale is the former   MP for Malambo and joined UPND last year.
