Mazabuka District Commissioner, Tyson Hamaamba yesterday chased a representative from the ministry of health for failing to provide answers to the failed Microbicide Gel during a full council meeting held in the Mazabuka council chamber.
The irate DC ordered the district environmental health technician, Mushabati Mushabati to leave the meeting and obtain the details from his superiors of the failed drug which the MDP used under its clinical trials to determine the efficacy of the drug in blocking HIV transmission.
According to MDP Principle Investigator, Dr Maureen Chisembele, 46 women contracted the HIV and AIDS virus after the research.
Mr Hamaamba said he was particularly disappointed with the district director of health for failing to heed to his directives to produce MDP officials before the councilors who had demanded to be briefed on the outcome of the clinical trial.
He warned that he would not tolerate officers deliberately denying the public their right to know what happened during the clinical trials.
