Mbabala MMD candidate pockets campaign money

MMD Mbabala aspiring candidate Laivan Apulani has been put to task by youths after refusingto release the K50 million campaign funds to the constituency.
Sources within the MMD Mbabala constituency committee told the Watchdog that President Rupiah Banda a week ago directed the secretariat to hand over the money to all aspiring candidates and that the money should be shared with candidates vying for local government  positions.
The source revealed that in Mbabala Apuleni has chosen to use the funds alone.
“The situation is pretty bad, this man is not even campaigning he has even shifted the camp to town after he collected the money. The money was given to the party in the constituency for the sole purpose of campaigns not him to keep or give to his multiple girl friends,” the
source said.
The source told the Watchdog that even Mbabala constituency chairman Chileshe Mwamba was aware of the problem but has decided to keep quiet.
“Mr. Mwamba our chairman is aware of this problem because we have informed him that we have not received the money from Apuleni, he is just managing and coming up with programmes that disadvantage the party,” the source said.
The source warned that if nothing is done to sit Apuleni down to lay a programme ahead of the nominations, members might decide to support other candidates.
The source has since appealed to MMD provincial chairman Edgar Keembe to quickly find a solution failure to which they will defect to the opposition UPND.
Efforts to get a comment from Apuleni proved futile but Mwamba referred all the queries to the provincial chairman Keembe who he said was in the better position to issue a comment over the matter.
And all constituencies in the Southern province have started receiving campaign materials.
