The Buseko Timber and Grass Multi-Purpose Cooperative has accused Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa of being behind the takeover of their premises by Patriotic Front cadres.
According to correspondence obtained by the Zambian Watchdog from Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata’s office, the cooperative wrote to Mulenga Sata complaining that PF Cadres told them that they were instructed by Miles Sampa to take over the property and challenged the cooperative to report any where because Sampa was not only their MP but was also President Sata’s nephew.
In June 2012 PF cadres led by Hieta Bwalya violently took over property number 27009 situated opposite Buseko Market in Lusaka which according to records at the Ministry of Lands belongs to
Buseko Timber and Multi-Purpose Cooperative under certificate of title number 7100
Last year Bwalya was reported to police and arrested but Miles Sampa ordered the police to release him and he immediately proceeded to launch another attack on the traders and damaged their equipment valued at k200, 000.
The case was taken to the high court and on 24th July 2013 the court ruled in favour of the cooperative but the cadres have refused to vacate the premises.
‘It is hereby adjudged that judgement be and is hereby entered for the Plaintiff for an eviction order of all the Defendants from stand number 27009, Lusaka; an order for damages for loss of property and for derailing the construction projects on the site; an order for loss of use of income generated from the communal toilet on the property and costs for this action,’ reads the judgement.
One of the cooperatives’ shops is now being used as a PF office. Hieta Bwalya meanwhile has been sued by the cooperative for criminal trespass and arson, theft and malicious damage and the case is before Magistrate William Banda but the case has been adjourned several times because Bwalya has not been appearing before the court.
The Cooperative is a project funded by the US-ADF since 2009 but is now almost non functional as the equipment is damaged and marooned at Lusaka Central Police.
Hieta Bwalya was one of the PF cadres who attaked Civil Society leaders who were meeting at BIGOCA Church in Matero to pray over the constitution making process which has been hijacked by the PF government.
Bwalya also spearheaded the violence that erupted at Buseko Market on Thursday 4th September 2014 and is believed to be working under Miles Sampa’s instructions.
Over 8 people were injured yesterday and one UPND cadre only named as Luka is admitted at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after being hacked by panga welding PF cadres who were led by Miles Sampa’s thug Hieta Bwalya in their continued struggle to control the market.
And UPND Lusaka Province Youth and Publicity Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso has challenged the Police to arrest Hieta Bwalya failure to which UPND youths will carry out a citizens’ arrest.
