Minister Siamunene’s abuse of workers at his hotel

Western province deputy minister Richwel Siamunene’s workers at his Richland hotel in Livingstone have been going for months without pay in addition to being paid far much below the government agreed minimum wage.

Siamunene has even barred the workers from belonging to the union of Hotels and catering workers for fear that his ill treatment will be exposed.

Some workers at the hotel told the Zambian Watchdog that in spite of the hotel getting good business because of the number of government workers spending nights there and functions that are held, they have continued to be abused and any complaints result into instant dismissal.

“We work as casuals without specific contracts while only very few are permanent workers but all categories are paid peanuts. Whenever we try to complain to the labour office the minister intervenes and fires the people behind the complaints so we are suffering,” said the worker.

Greedy and stubborn Siamunene, the Sinazongwe lawmaker is one of the rebel UPND MPs who have been expelled from the party and are supposed to be out of parliament but are being shielded by the PF government through court injunctions.
