The Miss Zambia pageant, which is making a comeback after a long hiatus, is being held under the title Miss Zambia Golden Jubilee as part of the country’s 50 years of independence celebrations.
Miss Zambia franchise holder Elizabeth Mwanza said in a statement that the pageant has gone back to its original format of selecting finalists from each province, who then advance to the finals in Lusaka.
Southern Province auditions took place last weekend, while the provincial final to select the finalists that will travel to Lusaka were held last night in Livingstone. The Lusaka Province auditions were held last latter part today at Mika Lodge in Jesmondine.
The title sponsor of Miss Zambia Golden Jubilee 2014 is Mika Group of Hotels, which will host the finalists when they come to Lusaka for the finals.
Mika Hotels will also host the stage show where the Miss Zambia 2014 will be crowned, at the Mika convention centre in Waterfalls, Livingstone, on October 4, 2014. Mika Hotels is also providing the purse money of K50,000 for the winner.
Other prizes include attending the Miss World Pageant in London in December, one-year scholarship to study Women Developmental Studies at US-Africa Synergy, which is sponsored by Platinum Events GH.
The current Miss Zambia, Zindaba Hanzala, will hand over the crown to the Miss Zambia 2014 on October 5, 2014.
“The Miss Zambia pageant promotes an individual who is charged with doing her utmost to promote public awareness of community social issues, charitable organisations and the plight of the needy in our society.
“Miss Zambia has been successful with several projects in the area of education, HIV/AIDS, social welfare, road safety and tourism. This is embodied in our motto Beauty with a purpose and vision,” says Elizabeth, a former Miss Zambia.
