The opposition MMD has again accused the ruling PF of having used massive state resources and other underhand methods to gain advantage over other political parties in yesterday’s by-elections.
But PF says the strong showing by the ruling party in yesterday’s election results was proof that people appreciated Mr. Michael Sata’s development agenda.
MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu said the PF used a lot of state resources to lure the rural voters to vote for the ruling party.
The MMD has been the biggest loser in yesterday’s by-elections after it lost Mkushi South, and Vubwi to the PF and Solwezi Central to the UPND.
But PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu says the party’s solid performance in yesterday’s by-elections confirms that people appreciated president Sata’s development programmes in the country.
The MMD only managed to retain Kasenengwa Constituency with their candidate Victoria Kalima getting 10,936 votes, followed by PF with 3,489, UPND with 439, and UNIP with 280 votes.
In Vubwi, PF’s Margret Miti won the seat with 3797, followed by MMD’s Eustarkio Kazonga with 1,091 while UPND trailed in third position with 761 votes.
UPND’s Dawson Kafwaya won the Solwezi Central by-election 4,755, followed by PF’s Newton Malwa with 3,105 and MMD’s Lucky Mulusa was in third position with 1,897 votes.
In Zambezi West, PF’s Christabel Ngimbu was declared winner with 3420 votes followed by UPND’s incumbent Charles Kakoma with 1,173 and MMD with 15o votes.
