MMD adopts candidate for Mporokoso, sets date for convention

The Movement for Multiparty Democracy MMD has set 5th to 7th April 2011 as the dates for its convention.

MMD acting national secretary Chembe Nyangu announced during a press briefing in Lusaka today that the convention will take place in Kabwe at Mulungushi University.

He says the approximated number of delegates for the long awaited convention is 1,372.

The MMD recently concluded the holding of provincial conferences in all the nine provinces were new provincial executive committees were elected ahead of the convention.

Mr Nyangu says President Rupiah Banda will launch the national membership card renewal exercise in Lusaka on the 19th of February 2011 ahead of the convention.

Meawhile the MMD has adopted Mporokoso District Commissioner Dominic Chanda as its candidate for the March 3rd Mporokoso parliamentary by-elections.

The Mporokoso seat fell vacant after the resignation of former sport, youth and child development deputy Minister Maynard Misapa to join the opposition Patriotic Front.
