MMD advised to tolerate expelled MPs

The Southern Africa Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has appealed to Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) to consider avoiding by-elections by tolerating expelled Members of Parliament (MPs)

SACCORD Publicity and Information Secretary Obby Chibuluma said going for by-elections is a waste of taxpayer’s money which could be channeled to developmental projects aimed at alleviating poverty.

Chibuluma advised the MMD to allow expelled MPs George Mpombo and Jonas Shakafuswa to complete their terms as the country goes to the polls soon.

Meanwhile, Citizens Forum Executive Director Simon Kabanda said MMD should rescind its decision of writing to the Speaker of the National Assembly to declare Katuba and Kafulafuta seats vacant.

Kabanda further charged that by-elections are misuse of resources as elections shall be held and the vacant positions can be contested then.
