Sata intorduces PF candidate in Malambo while the matter is in court

MMD Vice President for Political Affairs Michael Kaingu has challenged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to bar Patriotic Front candidate in the forthcoming Malambo by-lections Jack Shuma because the PF has blatantly breached the Electoral Act by campaigning before the official campaign period is declared.

Dr. Kaingu has told the Zambian Watchdog that by President Sata openly going to campaign in Malambo and introducing the party’s parliamentary candidate, the PF breached the Electoral Act.

Dr. Kaingu has since called on the ECZ Chairperson to invoke the provision in the Electoral Act that bar candidates.

“What other evidence does the ECZ want in order to bar the PF from contesting? the evidence is all over. President Sata went to campaign before the official period is announced. What we know is that the matter is in Court and it has not been disposed of. The President is putting the Judiciary in a very bad position because people will think he has some advance information about when the Supreme Court will rule over the matter. I do not think even the Judiciary is happy about this. It is actually contempt of court” he said.

Dr. Kaingu further said it is like President Sata wanted to show that he can do whatever he feels like. “For me it is like the President just wanted to show that he can do as he pleases and even commit contempt of court” Dr. Kaingu who is Mwandi Member of Parliament said.
