MMD in Northern province also wants rebel MPs expelled

The MMD in Northern Province has added its voice to calls by the party top leadership to expel rebel Members of
Parliament.

MMD provincial chairman Steven Mukuka said the party in the region is in total support of decision by their National Executive Committee
(NEC) to expel MPs serving as deputy ministers in the Patriotic Front Government.

Mr. Mukuka said the MMD will not support rebel members that want to cause divisions in the former ruling party.

He said the PF government should have consulted the MMD before appointing its Members of Parliament into Government.

Mr. Mukuka advised the MMD MPs serving in Government to resign their positions for sake of unity in the party.

He said it is important that MMD members respect the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) on the issue.

Mr. Mukuka claimed that the appointment of opposition MPs into Government is weakening the tenets of democracy in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mukuka has advised losing MMD parliamentary candidate in Mpika’s Kachibiya Constituency Sunday Chanda to desist from
attacking the party in public.

He said Mr. Chanda should be grateful to the former ruling party for giving for him an opportunity to contest the parliamentary seat even
though he lost to the PF candidate.

Mr. Mukuka further called on MMD members to rally behind the party’s top leadership in its quest to re-organise the party.
