Former Defense Minister George Mpombo has demanded that the MMD leadership should hold a convention so that the party can elect a president.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka, Mpombo, who is also Kafulafuta Member of Parliament (MP), said a convention is cardinal because the party only has an acting president.
The parliamentarian said holding a convention is mandatory as it is part of the constitution so MMD should set standards as it the ruling party.
Mpombo cautioned top leader of the party to desist claiming the MMD cannot hold a convention due to lack of resources.
He said it is shameful to see African leaders promoting dictatorial tenets when the states thye govern are democratic.
