Calls and demands by the people of Itezh-tezhi district for the Speaker of National Assembly Patrick Matibini to declare the Itezhi-tezhi seat vacant are slowly pilling up.
The residents are complaining that the silence by the speaker on the matter is disadvantaging the people of itezhi-tezhi because they do not have an area Member of Parliament.
With the area being hit with hunger situation and poor road network, the people of Itezhi-tezhi do not have anywhere to run to as their former UPND MP Greyfrod Monde who is now dining with the PF government was expelled by the opposition party.
MMD Banamwaze Ward Councilor Humphrey Kabanga says that there is leadership vacuum in the area and requires total representation by an MP.
Mr. Kabanga says that the silence by the speaker over declaration of the seat vacant is worrying and raising suspicions in people’s minds.
The only MMD councilor in the area has also complaining of not being in touch with his party prompting him to contemplate on joining the UPND.
Mr. Kabanga has however said that he does not want to create a by election by defecting but will instead work closely with UPND councilors and will campaign for whoever will be adopted by the UPND.
He said that currently the only person he felt can deliver the seat to the opposition UPND was Jacob Mubambo the grandson to former speaker of national assembly Robison Nabulyato.
Mr. Kabanga says that from all the people who have showed interest in representing the people of Itezhi-tezhi, Mubambo was standing a better chance because he was a local person whose family has a good political background.
The councilor has also warned the UPND against adopting someone who will not deliver the seat to the opposition.
