MMD says it hasn’t decided on convention

mmdlogoThe MMD has began to change its language on whether or not to hold a national convention to elect new party officials.

MMD deputy national secretary Jeff Kaande has told journalists that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the MMD has not met to decide on the matter.

He said people who are shouting and saying that the MMD has refused to hold the convetion are wrong.

He said the only thing the NEC has done so far was to receive petitions from provincial committees demanding that the convention be postponed.

But last month MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba dissolved the Western province committee for resolving that the party should do go to a convention.

And the Watchdog has been informed by senior MMD sources that the convention will be held in the first quarter of 2010.

According to sources, the party wants to identify individuals that may want to challenge Rupiah Banda to the presidency at the convention and ‘sort’ them out before the convention.
