MMD President Nevers Mumba has alleged that the PF were involved in electoral malpractice such as vote buying and dishing out money to the voters in the constituency during the campaigns.
Dr. Mumba said the MMD has proof of these allegations adding that it will soon sit down to look at the evidence before it can file in the petition.
He said the MMD is the only existing political party in Chama North and that the PF won the election because of fraud and manipulation.
He said he will ask the campaign team in Chama north to avail him with information on what transpired during the campaign and voting to enable them petition the results.
Dr. Mumba said this at a media briefing at the MMD Secretariat where he introduced newly elected Muchinga Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Howard Kunda this afternoon.
The MMD President also accused the ruling PF of distributing 4,000 bags by 50 kg bags of maize to electorates in Muchinga to win their favour although the people did not vote for the party.
He said the party will soon issue a statement on these and other matters which transpired dung the just ended by-elections.
Dr. Mumba also alleged that there was rampant abuse of public resources on the part of government leaders through the use of helicopters during the campaigns.
“The Vice President had to go to Muchinga twice to campaign and using three choppers and a fleet of vehicles which were dotted around the constituency.
Although the Vice President is entitled to choppers at least once during campaigns, the government went further by allocating choppers to Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba who was campaign manager for the constituency”
“I was once a Vice President and I never saw this rampant abuse of public resources. I only ask the opposition to stand up and speak against this, as the MMD we will soon complain to the relevant authority over this” he said.
And Dr. Mumba said the election of MMD’s Howard Kunda as the MP for Muchinga is a good sign especially to those that doubted the former ruling party ambition of bouncing back to power.
He said the election clearly shows that the MMD is determined to renew public confidence among the people.
He has since thanked MMD members and people of Muchinga who stood besides them during the campaigns and the election yesterday.
Dr. Mumba has meanwhile reiterated that the MMD will not sit down and watch but will continue criticizing government in order to see that it meets the aspirations of Zambians and full fills its campaign promises.
And newly elected Muchinga MP, Howard Kunda said he won the seat to continue on the legacy left by his late father, who was immediate past MP and former Republican vice president George Kunda.
Mr. Kunda said he will go to parliament to represent the people of Muchinga who have elected him. He has since thanked the people of Muchinga for voting for him
