MMD women in Central Province have commended President Rupiah Banda for appointing minister of Education Dora Siliya as party spokesperson.
Central Province MMD Women’s Chairperson Grace Mulando said yesterday that the women in the province were happy with Ms Siliya’s appointment and pledged to support her to ensure that she performs well for the party.
Mrs. Mulando said women were confident that Ms Siliya would deliver in her new position because of her integrity and experience.
She added that the MMD women were particularly happy because Ms. Siliya was the first woman to hold the position since the inception of the party.
In another development, MMD Bwacha ward Chairperson in Kabwe, Sydney Mushanga has resigned from both his position and the ruling party MMD to join the opposition Patriotic Front (PF).
Mr. Mushanga cited alleged dishonest and lack of integrity among MMD leaders at ward and constituency levels.
But MMD Provincial Vice Chairperson Robert Makangila, who expressed surprise at the development, said he was not aware of Mr. Mushanga’s resignation.
