Very sad indeed its a great loss loosing such a number of cattle at a go its unbelievable. Blaming the driver is not really a problem , we need to understand that an accident is something that happens at a time we don’t expect! How can the owner send animals for grazing without a shepherd animals don’t know anything, so the owner must be answerable.
The driver was correct to hit the animals than to swive and kill people.
The law is very clear, all domestic animals must be secured. The owner of the animals willl be charged for failure to secure domestic animals.
Thumbs up to the driver! It was prudent to kill the animals instead of putting the passengers in danger. Good judgment.
Fence off those animals please.
I wonder why one fellow here says driver should be jailed…eisshhh!!
I remember Chiluba’s government tried to make it illegal to have animals on roads. Not sure what became of that law. But there are certain grades of roads such as highways where it may not always be possible to slowdown even if you are traveling at 100-120km/h. Grade B or gravel roads maybe possible but not motorways or highways. As cars increase on our roads, we need to move with times and not allow grazing by roadsides for instance. If it’s a animal crossing point, appropriate signage must be posted. This is just a tragic accident and I’m not sure we should vilify the driver so quickly. Communities who keep animals also need road safety education through local structures like chiefdoms.
Careless and dangerous driver who should be banned from driving or retested. Highway code states that anyone riding / driving an animal has the right of way. He should have slowed down and give way surely he has more brains than an animal. For him to injure so many means he was speeding. He could have injured his passengers. Hope he was not under the influence of something. Reckless, needs to learn rules of the road to prevent loos of life.
Completely irresponsible driver. One should always slow down near animals and children. This bus driver must be a northerner who hates kachemas and their cows. Please travelers do not use this bus company ever! Let’s boycott it.
BTL I wish we Zambians could reach that type of civilization of boycotting certain services. We would do the same with the locals that pick passengers right on the road in Lusaka.
Would have been a tragic outcome if it were a smaller motor vehicle. What are animals doing on a major national highway without a kachema? I hope the owner of the animals managed to sell the meat to cover his losses. Sad.
